My name is Cher Phillips. I’m in the master’s program at the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Mass Communications studying online journalism. My other areas of interest in journalism include public records, public affairs reporting, community journalism through hyperlocal blogging and literary journalism.

This blog was created as part of a graduate class, Journalist’s Toolkit 1, as a venue for recording work produced while learning and practicing reporting aspects central to online news production.

I took the main header photo of a mummified dragonfly wing with a Canon PowerShot S3 IS using the supermacro function, with tones corrected in Adobe Photoshop. I’ll be using this camera for photo collection in this blog. Other equipment I use for online news collection includes a Nady Starpower SP-4c microphone and an Olympus Digital Voice Recorder WS-100.
